When you visit A Coruña you can not leave without checking these museums and exhibition halls, filled with works of art and pieces you can only enjoy here, thanks to the wide artistic and cultural offer of the city.
From museums that collect and put in context the work of local and national artists, to rooms dedicated to others of international status. Halls where the history of the metropolis itself is exhibited in showcases await you in this city, which has options for all tastes and interests.
Casa Museo Picasso
If art is something that moves you, do not miss the opportunity to see the works of Picasso exhibited in the museum dedicated to the painter. It is located on Payo Gómez Street, one of the streets that lead from Pontevedra Square to Lugo Square.
It is the ideal starter point for this route, as it is a small gallery that you can enjoy at your own pace. It is never crowded, as its location in the lower part of a residential building does not declare its presence loudly and many pass by without knowing what is hidden behind those white doors.
You can find this hidden gem in the building that once was the home of a Pablo Picasso, who back then was still a child studying at the Eusebio da Guarda high school. Admission is free, and so are the guided tours, available for a maximum of 15 people, although you must first make a reservation.
Exhibitions downtown
In Cantón Pequeño, a street that was once full of buildings that belonged to the architectural style of Art Nouveau, you can not only see the iconic Obelisk of A Coruña, but it is also common to find temporary photography exhibitions or those explanatory of various historical events of importance to the city.
Not far from this point you can enjoy a great variety of art exhibitions, from those brought to the city by the Barrié Foundation or those you can see in Afundación (in adjacent buildings), to the one organized by the Marta Ortega Foundation, which each year pays tribute to a different photographer.
Exhibition Lounge of the City Hall
The building of the City Hall of A Coruña has enough history to fill an entire museum on its own, but to know it you will have to come with us to one of our tours. We will tell you all about it!
On the first floor of the building, accessing through the main door, you can enter the exhibition hall of the City Hall. Admission is free, and we love that on its walls so often hangs the work of local artists. Painting, photography and other fine arts are what you can expect to find on your visit, and there is a constant rotation to maintain an active cultural leisure offer.
San Antón Castle
Follow the promenade to the castle of San Antón, a building that was once built as part of the defensive system of the city and today is the Archaeological and Historical Museum of La Coruña.
The castle has been considered a Historic-Artistic Monument since 1949 and an Asset of Cultural Interest since 1994.
While the architecture of the building itself is worthy of appreciation, the permanent exhibition of the museum is divided into three sections: medieval art and heraldry, archeology and history of the city (which includes the history of the castle itself).
To visit this museum means through a time tunnel that connects the very origins of civilization in Galicia to the more modern history of the city and the province.
Luis Seoane Foundation
On a permanent basis, the Foundation has an exhibition dedicated to the artist from whom it inherits its name: Luis Seoane. This brings together a selection meticulously prepared to present the themes, techniques and disciplines explored by the artist. Although his work as a painter is the best known, the truth is that he also captured his creativity in tapestries, murals and more.
The character and multidisciplinary nature of the artist have permeated even the Foundation, as the temporary exhibitions that are housed within its walls also vary between a multitude of formats that the viewer can enjoy.
